Bringing Home Your New Kitten

Things to have ready when your kitten goes home:

Food- The kittens are eating Purina Kitten Food and Fancy Feast wet food.

2. Water –regular tap

3. Bowls for food and water. No milk ever to a kitten.

4. Fleece bed and a small litter box. I use wood pellets for bedding (NO ADDED GLUE) found at Bomgaars for cat litter. If you wish to change the type of litter, feel free to use whatever non-clumping litter you would like to use. Mix the litter and wood pellets ½ and ½ in litter box for a couple weeks, then switch to full non-clumping litter.

5. The kittens need a small space (like a ½ bath) to live in for the first few weeks. Too much space will make them insecure and they won’t know how to find their litter box.

6. Be SLOW introducing them to your existing pets. It usually takes 2-4 weeks for a cat to relax in a new environment. These kittens have never been around dogs, so please take care if introducing them to dogs.

7. Kittens require exercise, mental stimulation and social interaction as well as appropriate boundaries. Other pets in the house can provide some of this and YOU need to provide the rest. They need lots of interactive toys and if you have a single kitten you must play with them frequently to get out their excess energy and prey instincts.

8. If you have found that your kitten has started to pee in places that it shouldn’t, I have found sometimes they just get lazy. I would suggest putting them in a crate for a while until they realize that they need to pee in the litter box. This happens because they are used to their momma cleaning up after them—even if they are fully and reliably litter trained!

Vaccines

Your kitten will come with their first sets of shots and worming. You need to make an appointment with your vet for the rest of their shots. I will provide a record of what they have received so far.
